Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a standardized test designed in 1962 AD to measure the English Language ability for non-native English speakers. The TOEFL test examines the individuals from four test sessions: Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking. TOEFL is regarded as one of the most popular English assessment tests for individuals looking to study abroad in English-speaking Countries.
TOEFL iBT (internet based test) and TOEFL Essentials are two types of Tests. TOEFL iBT is the most common format that assess all four language skills: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening using integrated and independent tests while TOEFL Essentials is designed for the quick and reliable assessment of English language proficiency. It can be said as the shorter and adaptive version of TOEFL iBT.
Format of TOEFL test
- Listening = 28 questions in 36 minutes
- Reading= 20 Questions, 35 minutes
- Speaking= 4 tasks, 16 minutes
- Writing= 2 tasks 29 Minutes
